10:10pm A real dampener for the thousands that had gathered at the Sydney Showground Stadium. We were just one over away from constituting a game but in the end, the rain won. The Sydney Sixers will feel hard done by, but it is what it is. A point for the Sydney Thunder and that takes them up to sixth, level on points with the Melbourne Stars but ahead on NRR.

That's it from us for this game. Hope you enjoyed it while it was on, and we will be back with more BBL action tomorrow. Until then, this is goodbye from Shashwat, Sudeep and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo. Take care!

10:06pm It is official. The game has been called off. A bit of a shame for the sold-out crowd, given the action they had seen and how the match was shaping up. The Sixers and the Thunder get a point each.

9:55pm The cut-off time for the game to restart is 10:23pm local time, and the umpires reckon that it needs to stop raining by 10:03pm local time for the ground to be ready for play.

DaWolf: "Only one over away from making it a game, surely unless it's a complete downpour they should try to get that last over in before taking the players off?" -- That would be my thinking too. But the umpires felt it was heavy enough to come off, and the rain has only grown in intensity since.

9:30pm No positive update yet. The rain continues to fall, and the covers are firmly in place. If anything, the rain seems to have gotten heavier than when the players came off. And for what it is worth, we have already started losing overs.

9:20pm Uh-oh, the umpires have decided to take the players off. It is a drizzle at the moment, and we are just one over away from constituting a game. The players are walking off, rather than rushing off, and that indicates the rain might not be very heavy. The pitch has been covered and the square is being covered too.
