At Basseterre, St Kitts, May 23, 2006. West Indies won by four wickets. Toss: India.
The first international match at Warner Park in St Kitts proved memorable. Sarwan became the
seventh batsman to celebrate his 100th one-day international with a century and, taking his average
to 84 in 15 matches against India, he showed how much he relished the challenge. Again, he
stayed till the end, and ensured there were no hiccoughs in the tense final stages. A misfield from
Dravid allowed two runs when only four more were needed, but India's middle order had already
let them down. Sehwag's 83-ball 97 had given them an ideal platform, but they failed to score a
single boundary after the 33rd over, although there were seven wickets standing. Three run-outs
didn't help, either.
Man of the Match: R. R. Sarwan.
